Social Media Marketing is the use of social media channels to sell your product or service. Most common social media platforms include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tik Tok, Pinterest, YouTube and many others. These platforms allow you to reach out to your existing audience as well as new clients.

Assuming you have a page on social media. Where do you start from? What do you post? How do you make content specific for your audience? You probably have a million other things that need your attention throughout the day and remembering to post at 10:00AM and 2:00PM is not top of that list. Let alone respond to clients’ comments on all platforms.

Have A Plan

A social media plan is a vital part of growth strategy. This includes a content calendar, an arsenal of automation tools, tools for tracking performance metrics and more. Though it may seem easy and effortless, social media marketing will only work if you – Have a plan. You will hardly have any substantial results without having a plan. Take out a pen and literally write out your objectives before you begin.

Know Your Audience

According to statistics, there are 3.96 billion active social media users worldwide. Once you get your brand on social media you have to know who your audience is. Let’s say you sell shoes, your audience will definitely be different from that of a Non-Profit Organization. You want to know who of these 3.96 billion people is directly interested in what you have to offer and stop assuming your audience is everyone.

Choose Your Tone

To understand the ‘Tone’ we must first understand ‘Voice’. Just like humans have different personalities, so do brands. You can have a brand voice that is lively, positive, cynical or professional etc. while ‘Tone’ is considered a subset of your brand’s voice. Tone adds a specific flavor to your voice based on factors like audience, situation and channel. Essentially, there is one voice for your brand and many tones that refine that voice.

Your tone may change depending on the message and vary based on the different platforms you have. For example, as a health facility you can have a general professional voice but your tone can vary on the different platforms i.e. you can have funny and engaging content on Tik Tok or Instagram and very professional and direct content on Twitter.

To form an active community, always keep your tone consistent throughout.

Have Clear Goals

In line with having a plan, you need to have clear objectives. Know how far you want to go and what impact you want to make. Chasing these milestones keeps you consistent and competitive in the market.

Your goals have to be SMART. They have to be Specific – simple, sensible and significant. Do not have a goal of achieving a million followers on all platforms in the birth month of your brand. They need to be Measurable – meaningful and motivating. Achievable – Agreed or attainable. Relevant and lastly Time Bound.
